If you ever lived in Sumter County, Alabama, chances are you know how to do barbecue the right way. Matter of fact, the tiny Sumter County town of Geiger is so steeped in the tradition of real pit barbecue that its barbecue clubs – that’s right, barbecue clubs – go back 175+ years! You see, in Geiger, folks are very serious about their barbecue.
Now then, you take this place that is known for its long tradition of barbecue excellence, and narrow your focus even more – to the cream of the cream, the elite handful of hand-picked members of the barbecue club of barbecue clubs, the one that started it all more than 175 years ago. Then find the one guy sitting on the top of that heap, and his name would be George.
George Aust, to be exact. Born and raised in the tiny town of Geiger, you might say that George had a destiny. And that destiny was to make the best darned barbecue anywhere, bar none. And that’s exactly what George did.
Now wouldn’t it be just a tad bit selfish to keep all that lip smacking, rib tickling goodness confined to a little bitty place like Geiger, when there are folks all over just yearning for good barbecue? Well, that’s sort of what George thought, and by golly he did something about it.
George started out small, like all great entrepreneurs do, by opening George’s Old Time Barbecue Restaurant in Brewton, Alabama in 1994 – and it was an overnight success. Pretty soon, George began to set his sights a little higher. After all, there was a whole world of people who hadn’t tasted real, honest-to-goodness barbecue in their lives! So George set up a larger facility in Brewton and began to think about bottling his “all from scratch, hand stirred but never cooked” Old Time Barbecue Sauce.
And the rest is history, lucky for you. Now you can just hop on your personal computer, punch a few buttons, and before you know it, you’re waking up your chicken, ribs, pork or beef with mouth-watering goodness the likes of which, we promise, you have never tasted before (unless you are a returning customer)!
Now wasn’t that just real nice of old George, to think that you, too, deserved to experience the out-of-this-world taste of real barbecue done up right? We think so.
