Alabama Food Manufacturers and Producers:

The Alabama Food Manufacturers and Producers, Inc., is a 501 (c) (6) corporation which exists for the purpose of identifying and increasing awareness of Alabama food products and increasing sales of those products as well as raising monies for designated charities in the state of Alabama. Membership is open to any company that is headquartered in Alabama or produces or manufactures products here in our state. Alabama food product sales have a $2 billion impact in Alabama’s economy, tax base and along with the food service industries, employ one out of every four Alabamians.

The Association partners with the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries and the Alabama Grocers Association to promote local products here in the state of Alabama. There are many opportunities for members such as the annual retailer luncheon sponsored by the Alabama Grocers Association in January. This luncheon brings retailers from all over the state together, from large retailers such as Wal-Mart and Publix Super Markets, to independent stores. Grocery wholesalers such as Associated Grocers of the South, Associated Wholesale Grocers, C & S Wholesale, Mitchell Grocery Corporation, Piggly Wiggly Alabama Distributing Company, and SuperValu are also in attendance.

Todd Strange - Mayor of MontgomeryThe Association also targets two specific months, March and September, to work with the retail community to do special promotions with Association members. There are Press Conferences for each month to kick off the promotions and involve our retailers, legislative community and the media. These events make the public aware of the Buy Alabama’s Best Campaign and the importance of purchasing Alabama manufactured products while bringing everyone together to help our state’s economy. In each designated month, retailers also participate in a display contest that is co-sponsored by the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries and the Alabama Grocers Association. In addition, retailers also sell Children’s Hospital icons to support the UAB Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at Children’s Hospital. This is the state’s only comprehensive pediatric center, treating over 95 percent of all patients in Alabama diagnosed with pediatric cancer and other blood disorders. Manufacturers are invited to give a portion of the proceeds from the sale of their products during the months of March and September to Children’s Hospital. To date, our Association has raised over $175,000 for Alabama charities.

There are also many other media opportunities throughout the year including “At Your Service” a weekly television program airing on Alabama Public Television statewide in 8 television markets, “Time of Your Life”, which airs up to 4 times a week in both the Montgomery and Birmingham areas, a variety of news cooking segments using Alabama products across the state, newspaper coverage and discounted rates in all forms of media available for group members.
